Removal of “ML” and “ML SL” tax codes

November 20th, 2012

As part of this year’s Budget the “income-under-$9,880 tax credit” was repealed effective from 1 April 2012.

Employees currently using the “ML” or “ML SL” tax codes may end up with tax to pay if they request or receive a Personal Tax Summary (PTS) or file an IR3 return. From 1 April 2013 these tax codes will no longer be able to be used.

Inland Revenue have written to employees who are using the “ML” or “ML SL” advising them that these tax codes won’t be available from 1 April 2013 and to reduce the chance of a tax bill they should to change their tax code now by completing an IR330 and giving it to their employer.

As part of our payroll service we will contact you if you have existing employees that should change their tax code. The updated IR330 form, with “ML” and “ML SL” tax codes removed is available for download here. If you have retained printed copies that were published prior to September 2012 we suggest you replace them with the updated form.

Testimonials

Rocket’s service is simply excellent. A quick phone call and any queries I have are answered promptly.
We changed to Rocket Payrolls many years ago after using in-house software and other outsource providers as we tried to get the right level of service. Using Rocket Payrolls was one of the best business decisions we’ve made.
We have used the Rocket Payrolls service for over 20 years. Our organisation is delighted with the service we have received. Whatever our questions have been they have always been answered professionally, efficiently and quickly. We feel it is excellent value for money.
As a small company there is no way that we could undertake the payroll function in-house. Rocket Payrolls saves us time and money.
It’s so nice to have a payroll service where the staff actually knows who you are when you call them.
Having someone who is understanding and patient in answering my questions is very important to me. I would definitely recommend Rocket Payrolls for payroll services.
The level of accuracy offered is high, yet the costs are surprisingly lower than others in the industry.
The staff are extremely knowledgeable and it’s refreshing to talk to someone that knows their payroll system and how current legislation is applied.
